A Brief Reprieve
Our roof dripped snowmelt all night long,
The morning sun lit distant skies
Their pink and baby blue belong
To fairy tales and children’s cries
Of lookie there, the clouds are shrooms
And marshmallow puffs drifting by,
And thus most days the scene resumes;
This morning’s breeze has heaved a sigh.
A January thaw has cursed,
Today the puddles fill with drain,
Tonight will freeze, expand and burst,
Our roads won’t long withstand the strain,
And nearly two months early too
When season’s thaw in March is here
And flushing rain will help renew
With blush new growth of colored cheer.
This here is just a brief respite,
As Winter snow returns tonight.
