Winter Refreshment
A snowstorm wound across the States today,
The upper Midwest buried under snow,
Converging moisture, West and Gulf, display
From coast to coast a wicked Winter show.
The California coastal hills push back,
The mountains there and further inland too,
A whirling vapor bobs on Eastern tack
To huff and wheeze down plains, then mix and brew
With icy rain and heavy snow to lay
Down colder temps for months still yet ahead;
We watch these storms conflate to flare and slay
Old shovellers, the homeless, dozens dead.
And though the taking on at times is fraught,
Such wealth in water simply can’t be bought.
