010323 sonnet To York for Sure this Summer Dear
To York for Sure this Summer Dear
We hope to visit Yorkshire one day soon,
Perhaps this Summer we could ferry over
To shop and see the Dales, let’s plan for June:
The days stretch out and seem to tarry over
A midday nap, required for strength to surge
On through the twilight night, past bedtime hour;
On tour of countryside, see pastures merge
With copse or crops or village bright with flowers.
See hillsides filled with Herriot-like views
‘Tween Helmsley and Hawnby hungry for lunch,
In Ripon roaming pews of stained glass hues,
To Thirsk and back, in a day, on a hunch.
The praise of Yorkshire’s dales sounds worth a go,
My uncle John, who’s traveled far, says so.
